The Journey to Carbon Zero

After announcing the launch of our new Carbon Zero porcelain paving range we wanted to explain, in full, how the products have achieved Carbon Zero status.

The journey to Carbon Zero can be explained in three stages: We Measure, We Reduce, and We Compensate.

We Measure
The first step is to fully understand the environmental footprint of the porcelain paving range. By calculating the total impact, from factory production to end of life, we can fully understand the costs and impacts of the processes. Measurements include:

• Extraction of raw materials
• Manufacturing and processing
• Packaging and transport
• Use in real environments
• End-of-life disposal

Measuring every stage ensures no hidden emissions are ignored. This transparency gave the foundation to set ambitious reduction targets and to track progress in a measurable way. 

We Reduce
Next, the aim is to reduce the emissions associated with these activities. This has meant a long-term commitment to sustainable production processes and a responsible approach to resources.

Resource Efficiency

• 100% of wastewater is recycled within facilities.
• 99% of waste from Italian sites is sent for recovery instead of landfill.
• Over 15,000 tons of fired sanitaryware waste are reintroduced into the production cycle each year.
• 100% recovery of raw waste generated in production.

Renewable Energy

• 127,000 m² of photovoltaic panels generate 12.3 million kWh of renewable power annually.
• Since 2012, this has prevented 164,284 tons of CO₂ emissions, including 11,439 tons in 2024 alone.In optimal conditions, Italian facilities are powered by 100% self-produced electricity.

Responsible Materials

• More than 90% of natural raw materials used in the porcelain paving range are responsibly sourced.
• The range contains an average of 30% recycled content, with outdoor products (2 cm thickness) containing over 50% recycled material.

Through these measures, the carbon footprint of the paving range has been cut, while ensuring the same high-quality performance and design.

We Compensate
Some emissions remain unavoidable. That’s why it is important that the Carbon Zero porcelain paving range offsets 100% of CO₂ emissions across its life cycle. This is achieved by supporting certified international projects that generate renewable energy in developing countries. These projects not only neutralise the emissions but also create social and environmental benefits, from building clean energy infrastructure to improving local communities.

This means every product in the Carbon Zero range delivers net-zero emissions from start to finish.

Our Carbon Zero range is backed by international product certifications, ensuring that the claims are transparent, verifiable, and reliable.

The products are sourced from a Certified B Corporation, recognised for meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
